This is a work in progress from the 2002 release on Luton based "Smoking' Beats" Label, they unfortunately went bankrupt 18 days after the song was released, at the time the musicians union & I pursued them in the small claims court but due to 'right of accounting' our attempts to discover the fate of this release stumbled. Looking forwards the Paul Landon remix only fincluded the vocals and was a bit 'hairy?!?' Here we have obliterated the TR 909/808 rhythm tracks and placed a live drummer from Chelmsford Essex on the track in a Dennis Coffee "Scorpio" kind of late 1970's rhythm.
Do you know what apraxia is ? I don't myself the best i can muster is a really severe Laryngitus, My cousin in-law has the condition, also a heart murmur and apart from that is full of life. She's not the only girl in the world to have the condition, but she's always the only girl (apart from when visiting the hospital) in the room with the condition. I wouldn't know where to start on the possibilities of operating to cure & its probably impossible, new people often look at her when she talks like a Dalek they don't know how to react instantly, its not a monster they are looking at its a very pretty young girl but her speech is computerised naturally. Down sampled quantised ZX spectrum cassette tape like if you remember those from SFX. I've not mentioned her name but if anyone can help lift her spirits etc please don't hesitate to fill in the email form & drop me a line. Kind regards Matt
The verse begins, wanted by the queen of the nile, because its looking like a one night stand,
then the chorus is a repeated because he’s Mr Man, Mr Man , pay him for….. etc
Lyla had been home to Australia via Thailand & had been singing the mantra “He’s Mr Man, Mr Man for the 10 or 15 hour flight” Tapping the rhythms on her thighs with this instrumental banging along on her walkman
We never actually recorded the full vocal , it was one of the last things we wrote together in 2002. We had a nasty sax part written for Tom Brocklebanks (ex shine), but the break in the track never emerged and it remained without.
Looking up at it now the 128Bpm tempos okay possibly a notch fast, it’d be cool to add to the space effects & spring reverbs. The takes we have are slightly operatic in a happy open throat, if we did it again then closing the mouth a little and softening on the belted lead.
Enjoy the instrumental
Geared to the R+B market in Milan of 1998 this Darae Alan Simpson partnership was aired to Terry Calliers A+R (Verve, Timepiece) in that year, sadly no interest was shown the prise deal going to a sounds of blackness singer, its a great song but the usual story of wrong time wrong place wrong kind of vibe for the market at the time.
Mixed on Yamaha o2r with very little outboard, and you can remain assured several 20 hour sessions with zero overtime paid were encountered to coax out the finer details and tune the mix to the genre, Another case of begging for a deal & not landing the end result
On the 18th May 2009 Dr Quari Younus travelled from Pakistan and arrived here to record 4 hours of the Quaran with two assistants. Recording the Quaran in one or two hour excerpts due to the breathing correctly and right administration of breath this took over a few weeks. Forcing the notes out after an hour gives painful throat and we had to stop because of the obvious discomfort. The dry signal was a bit rich , in post production we 'washed' the lead vocal with Lexicon 480 reverb on a setting to Large hall & safe to say Dr Quari was very happy, there is a lot of bad new about muslim Karan & whabbissim with syrians knocking down temple where sefer yitzereh architecture once stood place , and terrorist attacks, id like to personally add that the Dr's company were very 'safe' and i enjoyed our recording, none of it i understood because of the farsi tongue or urdu but here is a short excerpt from the session
Here's a Jingle from Denton's Mike Jones for his Magic Shop he owns with his wife Michelle in Blackfirars, it hatched on the back of a fag packet & is still open, however Mike & Mark are now making lots of dosh from adult chatlines based in overseas territories, I wish them all the best in their new adult entertainment roles & more importantly the best of health. Mark travelled to Matthew Street and opened a newsagents between 15 and 22 the council were forced to shut it down for an unknown reason. I don't know Mikes position now but wish him the best of luck.
Here is a link to a notepad song i considering finishing in 2018
